What made you choose Palermo as your venue?
Palermo is our restaurant, so it felt very special to us to have our reception there. We love what we do, and thought it would be forever memorable to our guests and ourselves to host everyone for the evening. Our ceremony was just at the top of the city in the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens – something so lush so close to the hustle and bustle of the city was fantastic.
What made you choose Juno Wedding Films to document your day?
Juno Wedding Films came recommended to us by Rach’s sister who is a wedding photographer in London. She wanted the absolute best for our wedding and we feel Dan’s style is absolutely US. We wanted the memory of our day – full of all the emotion and love along with it. We believe his style totally captures the true essence of one of the best days of your lives.
What do you guys do?, what is important in life to you? How do you spend your days?
We are proudly apart of a Restaurant Group in Melbourne and run a few restaurants in the City. Having both Asado and Palermo featured in our film was important as these past few years have been so rewarding to see them both come to vision 2017/2018. We are so proud of our efforts – along with raising our baby girl Stella. You could say our days are pretty full. We love Melbourne and feel we have tapped into a scene that is a growing and vibrant – we are loving the journey of being restaurant owners and parents.
The proposal, how did it happen, what is the story?
When we were in South Africa for Rach’s sisters wedding – the idea of looking for diamonds randomly popped up unexpectedly. We discovered a stunning little studio that were able to source a black diamond for us within the few days we were there. Ben came home with a beautiful Diamond in his pocket… and nearly 2 years later…. Ben masked a getaway as a 30th birthday treat. We had a wonderful day going to our favourite places in Melbourne for breakfast and lunch and to the Lion King Show in the city! We then packed our bags and headed to Daylesford for a night away. He had a special dinner planned at ‘The Lakehouse’ (a place very special to his family as his mum is the florist there and Ben worked there when he was a teenager). We had the best seat in the house, drank beautiful wine and ate amazing food – just as I thought we were finishing up Ben said he has a “riddle” for me to crack. We still argue to this day over what he said and I said – but it was safe to safe we got ourselves in a muddle – but under my plate of dessert was the beautiful black diamond ring. He got down on one knee and proposed. The remaining guests and staff all applauded and sent champagne to us. We spent the rest of the evening back at our hotel drinking champagne and face-timing all our friends and family – it was SO amazing!
What kind of experience did you want for your guests from your wedding?
We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and wined and dined. We LOVE food and wine, so having a sit down dinner was an opportunity to showcase our food and delicious wine and look after everyone. We had a grazing charcuterie to start so people could mingle and we could spend more time chatting to people. Everyone that came we love, so it really didn’t matter what we did we know people would have a great time. But throw on some tunes and clear the tables away because our friends sure know how to party! It was fantastic – forever memorable – and even more so now with our beautiful clip from Dan. thank you Dan xo
