MANHATTAN WEDDING – NEW YORK WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE NEW YORK FOR YOUR WEDDING?
We chose New York for our wedding because, though we’re both from elsewhere, it’s home. It’s where we met, where we fell in love and where our lives are. We wanted the ceremony to feel like it was happening in our home. So many of our friends and family live elsewhere it was a chance to connect them to our lives here: the local places, people and experiences that make up our day to day lives and that we love so much.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE JUNO WEDDING FILMS TO DOCUMENT YOUR WEDDING?
We wanted our wedding video to feel like an artistic documentary of the day, capturing not just the events but the feeling (without the usual mix of formulaic shots we kept seeing replicated again and again). Your work best captured the balance we wanted. Every one of your videos we watched felt unique to that couple’s experience. Your pacing and use of the surroundings is beautiful.
WHAT DO YOU BOTH DO FOR A LIVING? WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE TO YOU AND HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS?
We both work in advertising, and we met at work. We already shared a lot of the same passions: travel, books, art and food. And yet we’ve also brought unique things to each other’s life. Mark is a songwriter with a passion for many different genres of music and Jo has loved and immersed herself in classic Hollywood films all her life. It’s no surprise that we were both independently pulled to New York. It’s the center of so many things we love.
THE PROPOSAL, HOW DID IT HAPPEN? WHAT IS THE STORY?
One day in early November Mark insisted on a walk into Central Park “to see the fall leaves.” We’ve lived just off of The Park our entire relationship. After wandering in search of a private spot he found a bench facing a strand of pine trees, pulled out the ring and proposed. Although we’d talked about marriage the proposal was a genuine surprise. Joselle was caught off guard – upon seeing the ring her first words were, “Oh my god, what is that?! What’s happening?!” Then, thankfully, she said yes. We sat and watched the sunset over the trees.
WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DID YOU WANT YOUR GUESTS TO HAVE FROM YOUR WEDDING?
We wanted it to feel like an intimate, elegant, and comfortable party in New York. The kind of dream dinner party we’d host if our apartment were big enough. So the ceremony was in a Greenwich Village brownstone and many guests walked through Washington Square Park together to the reception in the private basement of one of our favorite restaurants. We entered to the refrain from the TV show Cheers – “where everybody knows your name!” That’s the feeling we wanted: you’re at a party where everyone is loved and familiar, even if you’re meeting for the first time. Other events during the weekend also captured symbols of our favorite NY things: Chinese food with arriving family, an indoor/outdoor welcome reception at a recording studio set in an apartment and late night karaoke at a Korean bar.
